SPECIAL OPS 1.5 - V View Reviews - #40

Kay Kay Menon starter Special OPS 1.5 returns on Disney+Hotstar after a long wait. It has only 4 episodes, short but crisp. It's not a prequel nor a sequel in the strictest sense. It is a mini-series that will tell the origin story of the spy Himmat Singh who evolved into the legendary RAW officer. The plot of the first season followed the 2001 Parliament attack and the intelligence failure  leads to Himmat Singh's suspension. How he reclaim his position and establishes himself as a top tier Indian spy was the story line. Therefore, the previous season began with an investigation into Himmat Singh for misappropriation of funds. Here too the storytelling is similar to the first season and is in flashback by his faithful collaborator  Abbas Sheik( Vinay Pathak). TABBAR - V View Reviews #39

Tabbar means family in Punjabi. Here it is a story of the Singh family and their strong bond with each other. An unfortunate incident and its consequences change the dynamic of the family. Set in  Deepnagar in Jalandhar, Punjab, Omkar Singh (Pavan Malhotra) lives with his wife and their two sons. Elder son Harpreet aka Happy (Gagan Arora)is a dutiful son and takes coaching in Delhi to be an IPS officer. The younger son, Tegi (Sahil Mehta) is a college student who aspires to be a social influencer. Things turn upside down when Happy shoots a local politician's younger brother Maheep Sodhi. Omkar Singh defies all odd to save his family in the overall plot. This simple plot with layered characters become strong and impactful due to its storytelling technique. This keeps the audience glued to the screen throughout the eight episodes on Sony Liv. The characters do not talk too much but convey the emotions through their expression, body language and eyes.
