THE LAST HOUR -V View Reviews #16
"Unique concept and narrative," says Sanjay Kapoor for this supernatural thriller series The Last Hour.
The cinematography is a beautiful visual treat, the scenic Himalayan town, the floating clouds, the snow-capped mountains, the greenery, the pine forests, the winding roads, provides a powerful backdrop to the supernatural elements that hold our interest. It's shot in Sikkim with native language, momo counters, alcohol shops, noodle bars, the adequate representation of Northeast actors give us a local feel and add up the authenticity. This series throws light on the positive side of Shamans, the prevalent age-old practice in the Himalayan towns. Shamans are thought to have a special power to control and influence good and evil spirit. With this unique concept crafted masterfully the plot of a supernatural thriller, killings and the other World journey is weaved.
Arup (Sanjay Kapoor) is a newly transferred City cop. His task is to get hold of the perpetrator behind the serial crime against the women taking across the town. In the process to unravel the mysterious death in the town, he joins hand with Dev. Dev is a young Shaman on the run protecting a secret gift and ability to interact with the souls of the dead. He can communicate with them in the last hour before the body is cold. Arup and Dev make a formidable pair in their fight to nab Yama Nadu. He is an evil Shaman who is after Dev's power of being able to go back in time. He can look into the future. Therefore with Dev's power, he can flirt with time and become immortal. Thus, it is a story of good and evil again. In the whole process, Dev falls in love with the cop's daughter and is confused between duty and love.
Overall the series is a combination of intense acting, the mystic of the hills and passionate love.
Dev's role is played intensely by Karma Takapa, a shaman who communicates with the spirit for a specific purpose. Arup is played by Sanjay Kapoor a veteran actor admirably well as a cop who is tasked with tracking down a mysterious murder. The other actors in the pivotal role are Shahana Goswami, Shaylee Krishen, Raima Sen, Robin Tamang and Mandakini Goswami.
Sometimes the series appear dark and dull, slow-paced but concept-wise breaking the stereotyped is worth applauding.
The Last Hour is currently streaming on Amazon Prime.
