BLACK WIDOW - V View Reviews #52

The name sounded bold, it is women-centric, the promos were interesting..these reasons were enough to draw the audience.
Black Widow is based on the Finnish drama Mustat Lesket. It is adapted from there and the Hindi version is directed by Birsa Dasgupta. The narrative is gripping. The domestic violence in different ways women go through is addressed. The series here is a tale of three women, who are also best friends. Veera( Mona Singh), Jayati(Swastika Mukherjee) and Kavita(Shamita Shetty). They are victims of domestic violence. Veera's husband Jatin(Sharat Kelkar) always threatened Veera that he will take away her beloved daughter. Jayati's husband Lalit( Mohan Kapoor) abuses and tortures her physically. Kavita's husband Neelesh( Vipul) treats her as a commodity and forces her to sleep with his business clients. The three main leads, the strong female protagonist, therefore plan to get rid of them. Once when the three couples had gone for vacation, the lady gang planted a bomb in the boat their husband were. They made it look like a boat accident in mid-sea. Their plan was almost perfect till Pankaj  (Parambrata Chatterjee), the investigating cop come into the picture. What follows next in 12 episodes is the plot of the story. There are parallel subplots as well. Raima Sen is the ruthless owner of a pharma company that manufacturers viruses to double its income on vaccines. Yet another plot is where Ramiz(Shaheb Chattopadhyay) is after Veera for a bag of cash. The plots and subplots are well woven and unfold in the most unexpected ways.
The drawback of the series is its length and pace. Too lengthy and too slow. New characters are unnecessarily introduced. The performance of the actors is also not up to the mark. The good storyline is poorly navigated by the actors. However, the direction, dialogue,  screenplay and visual appeal are good enough.
Overall a good story fuelled with dark humour.
It can be opted only if you have extra time to invest and nothing better to watch. An average show.
It is streaming on Zee5.
