HUMAN - V View Reviews #51
Whistleblowing is a new trend these days on OTT. We had a financial scam exposed on `Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta story', the educational scam on `The Whistleblower' and now in 'Human' the medical scam focussing on a new drug trial. Hurrying a drug trial without following the prescribed procedure is the dark side of the medical world. 'Human' is the fictional version of what we have been reading on pandemics these days in newspapers about a drug trial. Corruption, greed, ambition, nexus between Government agencies and private hospitals, vote banks are all knit well here to build up the desired storyline.
Dr Gauri Nath is revered by the medical community but we soon realise all is not well with her. She is involved in an illegal drug trial. She is consumed with her ambition and can go to any extent to fulfil her desire. She is exposed by Dr Saira, a whistleblower in the coming 10 episodes and this is the plot. Parallel plots and subplots are talking about open marriage, lesbianism, Bhopal gas tragedy victims, poverty etc.
'Human' is thought-provoking so the name of the series is justified.
Language is aptly used according to the strata of the society shown. The pace with which the actors speaks shows the meticulous preparation by the lead actors. Too many medical terms are used and it is obvious.
Few scenes are explicit but it is common on the OTT platform these days. Some scenes of surgical procedures are disturbing.
As far as the performances are concerned, the actors are good and the characters are well written. Shifali Shah is Dr Gauri Nath and she played her role with conviction. She was effortless and outstanding as a top neurosurgeon and over-ambitious lady. Seema Biswas as Roma maa was perfect with her makeup and acting. Kirti Kulhari as Saira Sabarwal played cardiac surgeon, expressed her complicated personal life with ease. Other actors too complimented them well. Ram Kapoor as Pratap Munjal, Aditya Shrivastav as Ashok Vaidya, Vishal Jethwa as Mangu, Indraneel Sengupta as Saira's husband, Pranali Ghoghare as Meena, Gaurav Dwivedi as Dr Vivek Shekhawat, Asif khan as Asif, Sushil Pandey as Mangu's father, Atul Kumar as Dr Snehal Shindey, Sandeep Kulkarni as Promod Ahuja, Mohan Agashe as Mohan Vaidya, Shadab Siddique as Dr Deepak. Simran Pilani as Kusum, Ram Krishna Dixit as Raghav Chandra, Siddhant as Ravish, Mark Bennington as Dr Ross, Hansa Singh as Dr Gul Goyal, Debasree Ghosh, Riddi Kumar, Shruti are the actors in the show.
The production design by Surjeet Subhas Swat is realistic. Cinematography is aptly shot by Sirsa Ray, the real location of Bhopal and the interiors of super rich. The script is interestingly written. Editing by Zubin Sheik is good. Music by Saurabh Bhalerao blends with the theme. The direction is given by Vipul Amritlal Shah, Mozez Singh, Ishani Banerjee, Arjun Bhadegaonkar, Aasif Moyal, Stuti Nair and Darshan Prakash. The creator is Vipul Amrutlal Shah, and Mozez Singh. The producer is Vipul Amrutlal Shah.
What I liked about this is its realistic portrayal of situations. The two female doctors in the lead role and their performance has to be appreciated. But the storyline is dragged too long. Secondly, there is no light moment at all.
Overall, the plots subplots are knit well, there are twists and turns that keeps the audience hooked. If you intend to watch something serious, it can be opted or can be watched for the performance of Shifali Shah.
Its streaming on Disney+Hotstar.
I would like to give 3 /5.
