THE FAME GAME - V View Reviews #57

Madhuri Dixit with the magic that she exuded in the 90s is still much alive. She makes her OTT debut with this series The Fame Game. Here she plays popular Bollywood actress Anamika Anand. She looks gorgeous and stunning. Everything looked perfect in her life from the world outside until one day after an award show, she goes missing without a trace. Her phone, wallet and other essentials were still in her room. There is no ransom call either. Is it a murder, kidnap or suicide, the mystery deepens. ACP Shobha Trivedi (Rajshree Deshpande) is assigned to investigate this high profile case. Anamika's husband, her mother, kids, staff are investigated. Soon the cop realises that the family members are hiding secret not only from them but each other as well. During the investigation, the audience sees the other side of the glamour world.  Fame is not everything. She is the sole breadwinner of the family, there is a marital issue, domestic problem, financial crisis, troubled children, stalkers, affairs, professional competition. The investigation of Anamika's disappearance is the plotline that continues for eight episodes. It is engaging and engrossing with lots of twists and turns.
There is a back story of each character, that sometimes unnecessarily derail the show. Too many flashbacks also spoil the fun.
Needless to say, the beauty of the show is Madhuri Dixit. She emotes with her eyes. She is magnetic and attractive and holds the interest of the audience. Her performance shines in this mediocre fiction. The two lives of the superstar, on-screen and offscreen justify the title.
The cast is perfect. Madhuri  Dixit played Anamika Anand displayed her star power and charisma beautifully. Sanjay Kapoor is Anamika's bankrupt producer husband Nikhil More and  is the prime suspect in this case.He is good. Danish played by Manav Kaul excellently shared the complicated history with Anamika. He is superb in expressing the personal side of the role. His depression, his pain, his love for Anamika can be easily seen. Suhasini Mulay is Anamika's mother in the show, who controls her life and career. She as always is dependable. Lakshvir Singh Saran plays Avi, a bad-tempered boy who is also intense and sensitive. Muskaan Jaafri successfully plays Amara, who is insecure. Rajshree  Deshpande is the cop here dealing with her personal issues. She too is perfect.  Gagan Arora and Shubhangi Latkar justified their character but underutilised.
The setup of the story is interestingly directed by Bejoy Nambiar and Karishma Kohli. It is produced by Karan Johar and Somen Mishra. It is edited by Monisha R Baldawa and created by Sri Rao. Cinematography successfully catches the glitz of the film industry well. The music is good, camera work and dialogues are effective. If you are a Madhuri Dixit fan it is the right place. This web series is streaming on Netflix.
