BEST SELLER - V View Reviews #62
Best Seller is loosely adapted from Ravi Subramaniam's 'The Best Seller She Wrote'.
In this series Best Seller, two plots progress simultaneously and merged into one after 4th episode.
The first plot is of Meetu Mathur (Shruti Hassan) who is a great fan of Tahir Wazir(Arjun Bajwa) a novelist. He is facing writer's block, he needs to fulfil the publisher's expectations and no original ideas clicking him. It is then he meets Meetu Mathur, a budding writer and also his great fan. He allows her in his house. Meetu Mathur had a tragic past, which the novelist wanted to use for his next novel. Stealing her manuscripts and trying to pass them off as his own turns his life upside down.
In the second plot, Tahir's wife Mayanka is a hotshot advertising company owner and she appoints Parth ( Satyajeet Dubey) as an intern at her workplace. She started getting close to him without knowing his intentions. As the events unfold, the complex relationship proves to be deceit. The whole series progress by weaving these two plots. It is about revenge and hidden motivation. There are twists in the story with no suspense for the audience as the series of events is very predictable.
The thriller is not executed properly. The biggest twist is told in the beginning and the rest plot is an expected course of events, nothing to guess. Every thought a character has is said out loud and spelt on screen. The audience simply waits for the climax and logical end to the chain of events.
Actors are average in their performances. Shruti Hassan as Meetu Mathur is portrayed as a small-town North Indian girl, but her accent seemed to be forced. Mithun Chakraborty comes into the picture as a cop after an attack on Meetu Mathur. He makes his streaming debut with this thriller and he blows some life into this show and is only a source of entertainment. But his character is not written properly and he do not appear to be a smart cop. Arjun Bajwa's character is written to have no empathy and the writer succeeds here. He appears a self-centred and arrogant man. Gauahar Khan is a likeable actor here who played her part with precision. Satyajeet Dubey as Parth is a mysterious office intern and did justice to the character he played. Sonalee Kulkarni as cyber cell officer Urmila Ranade is not given enough to play. The background score is average. The writer could have made this series crisper. Directed by Mukul Abhyankar and produced by Siddarth P Malhotra, Sapna S Malhotra this series is streaming with 8 episodes on Amazon Prime Video. For me 2/5 stars.
