UNDEKHI - V View Reviews #64
Undekhi is a crime thriller web series full of suspense, action and drama. It has two seasons with 10 episodes each. More than anything else, this series will be known for the remarkable and impressive performance of the actors especially Harsh Chhaya, who is the highlight of the show.
A dancer is killed by the crooked businessman Atwal( Harsh Chhaya) at his son's(Daman) wedding. The wedding continues. Rinku(Surya Sharma) cleans up his mess at every step. He skillfully buries the crimes. It shows that Atwal rules the region and its unspoken secret. The sister of the killed dancer Koyal somehow manages to escape from the clutches of Atwal and wants revenge. A cop DSP Barun Ghosh (Dibyendu Bhattacharya) comes looking for Koyal. He gets into the war of saving Koyal alive from Manali against powerful Atwals. Rinku wants to kill Koyal and the videographer team. Season one ends where Teji(Anchal Singh) the new daughter in law of Atwal drives away Koyal from the claws of Rinku in an ambulance with the help of DSP Barun Ghosh. Season two starts exactly at the point where the first season ended. It picks up with DSP Barun and Teji trying to save Koyal with much suspense keeping the audience hooked. However later the dynamic among the characters shifts. There is a new plot of war between the two business tycoons. Initially, it appears unnecessary but this ensures the third season. In season two there is a new wedding and a new mess. All the characters and subplots are knit complicatedly.
The whole series depicts the two aspects of society, the influential people who think they can get away with anything and the oppressed people who bring themselves to justice.
It is a remarkable and impressive performance of the actors that make this show watch worthy.
Harsh Chhaya as Papaji is electrifying with his screen presence. His chilling performance as a filthy-mouthed alcoholic, who speaks mostly in Punjabi continues to light up every scene and keeps you entertained with his unapologetic attitude. His character is very vibrant and so is his performance.
Surya Sharma as Rinku is both hero and villain. He is the star of the show. Anchal Singh as Teji is shown as the manipulative mastermind who challenges Papaji and Rinku. She steps up the family ladder of mafias. Debyendu Bhattacharya and his powerful presence are the souls of the series. Apeksha Porwal as a tribal girl adds a dose of action to the series. Ankur Rathee as Daman found a decent screen time but stay in Teji's shadow. Meenakshi Sethi as Daman's mother has many scenes which give the audience a glimpse into how a woman stays in a mafia family, taking murder so easily and trying to appear polished and pristine in front of her new daughter in law. Shivangi Singh as Muskaan and Varun Bhaat as Lucky may have a major role in the next season. Meiyan Chang as Abhay and Nandish Sandhu are the new entrants in season two.
The camera work is praiseworthy and holds the charm, adding to the surprising thrilling impact. Cinematography with picturesque Manali and stunning visuals of a Buddhist monastery gives a soothing impact.
With a decent direction under Ashish R Shukla, Undekhi is streaming on Sony LIV.
