LONDON FILES - V View Reviews #66

London Files is an investigative thriller on Voot select with six episodes. With an engaging storyline and Arjun Rampal's acting, this series is worth watching. The plotline of the London Files is knitted with three threads. The first is the protest and chaos in the city of London after Anti Immigration Bill was introduced in the UK Parliament A cult leader continues to lead opposition to the immigration law in England. Second, Amar Roy, who supported this law, an iconic media baron, his daughter Maya goes missing and third is the story of Om Singh, a heavily medicated detective of the London police who is assigned to investigate a high profile missing girl  Maya's case. These three threads are weaved into a pattern of answers in the six episodes. Once the case is opened, it unravels a deep-seated conspiracy of lies and secrets.
It is the treatment of the plot that glues the audience to the screen. There are clues and twists through out the series, then the teenagers being brainwashed by some charismatic speaker, then how the conspiracy of past and present are linked. Though the series is pacing and intriguing, it gets boring and stretched for a bit in between. Some twists are predictable. And it is a bit unrealistic to use Hindi amidst English colleagues. These drawbacks are covered with the performance of the lead and the supporting actors. Arjun Rampal shines as a troubled cop Om Singh with his classic performance. Purab Kohli as Amar, a media tycoon is a character with many shades, which he did convincingly. Gopal Dutt sheds his comedy stereotype and opted for the intense role of a deep rooted cult who fights against the administration to ensure the voices of the immigrants in UK is heard. Medha Rana is impressive and eye catching. Sapna Pabbi as Om's wife have a limited role to play.  Sagar Aarya as Om's protective boss and friend Ranjh captures the heart with his marvellous performance. Aditi Zubair and Even Jane Willis are convincing. Shanice Archer as Maya's only friend Carol has an important role in the series.
Except for the background score, which sounded more like a horror plotline than a thriller, the technical department was praiseworthy. A powerful script, good direction, unusual setting, amazing camerawork and cinematography make it worth watching. Editing is crisp, smooth and efficient. The transition from flashback to present hold the attention of the audience. The logical end to the series is satisfying.
