DAHAN: RAAKAN KA RAHASYA - V View Reviews #86
Dahan Rakaan Ka Rahasya is a horror thriller. Horror is generally liked by the audience. Good thing is that it is not filled with jumpscare every two minutes. It is a good mixture of myth and science. Dahan successfully manages to transport us to the world of legends, occult practices, and beliefs of a village Shilaspura in Rajasthan. A maligned collector Avani Raut (Tisca Chopra) is newly posted in a town with a strange case. Shilaspura is blessed with rare minerals in its mines which she wants to exploit so that the village can flourish. Residents believe that Shilaspura is cursed by a sorcerer named Ridhiyakan and is still trapped in a mound called Shilasthal. Ridhiyakan needs to be appeased so that she can lie dormant in her abode. If the mines are blasted, Ridhiyakan will be awakened and they will be possessed and will become Rakan. Avni does not believe in this legend and sees things through the lens of science. She with Mangon Mining Corporation blasts the mine and opens Pandora's Box. The consequence is the plot. Along the main plot line, the back story of Avani and other characters runs parallel and knitted well. The story of clan rivalries, human greed, hidden treasure, and its dark secret is all part of the storyline.
The treatment of the story is engagingly presented by the director and creator Vikranth Pawar. This drama is a showcase of a tussle between faith and development. Who is right, needs to be seen in 9 episodes. The story initiates interestingly with a geologist and his young daughter who expires the alluring stones in the caves there in 1989....audience sees the first glimpse of the RRakan Then the story shifts to the present time. The beginning is good, however the central portion is repetitive, slow, and tedious. Inconsistency in narration makes the viewing worse. But the climax is worth watching. The story of thrill, suspense, mystery, and gore is convincing because of the teamwork of production design, cinematography, editing, and efficient cast. The writer Nisarg Mehta, Shiva Bajpai and Nikhil Nair imagined and created a world successfully with its good setting. The sandy mountains and the terrain give a vibe of Rajasthan. Arif's music blends with the story as it unfolds. Another highlight is it's cast. Tisca Chopra as Avani Raut is in a main lead. She is confident and remarkable. The complex role was carried with ease and her intense performance gave the desired result. Saurabh Shukla as Pramukh Swaroop, a local Godman and the caretaker is very convincing. His pause, dialogue delivery is noteworthy. Mukesh Tiwari as Bhairon Singh is again good to watch. Rajesh Tailang as Parimal Singh with his Rajasthani dialect appears realistic. Pankaj Sharma as Sachet, Avani's assistant also did his best. Ankur Nayyar as Sandeep Bajaj a ornithologist was attractive with his calm and composed tone. Rohan Joshi as Anay, Avni's rebellious son successfully displayed his complex emotion. Lahar khan, Rahul Tiwari, Hima Singh too did justice to their defined role.
Dahan, the story where myth merges with science is streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar.
