SHIKSHA MANDAL - V View Reviews #89
Shiksha Mandal revolves around medical entrance exam scams. It explores the education mafia in detail. It is inspired by the infamous Vyapam Scam in 2013. The plot will remind the audience of The Whistle Blower aired in 2021. Both are fictitious recreation of real-life education scams. The plotline is set in Bhopal and Indore. Here the protagonist is a brother and sister duo. Aditya Rai( Gulshan Devaiah) and Vidya Rai ( Iram Badar Khan). Aditya Rai owns a coaching center for medical aspirants. He shares a strong bond with his students. His sister Vidya Rai is also a student in the same institution. She is a bright student therefore his brother and others expect her to crack the medical entrance exam. On the day of the result, Vidya goes missing and her friend Rahul Somani( Gaurav Singh)is murdered. Since Rahul is the son of the politician, this high-profile murder case is handed to STF(Special Task Force) headed by Anuradha Singh(Gauahar Khan). Very soon she realizes that the case is not as simple as it appears. Aditya Rai too with his lead try to find out about his sister. The findings of STF and Aditya Rai are the plot of this drama. The villain is Dhansu Singh( Pavan Raj Malhotra) the education mafia head. He traps the bright students and forces them to appear for exams of undeserving candidates. The mafia team adopts different means of bribing, kidnapping, and blackmailing to trap the students. The villain is just not Dhansu Singh only. He is just the face. There is a nexus of politicians and criminals, bureaucrats and gangster, From top to bottom, the system is corrupt and the victim is the innocent students who invested their time and hard work throughout the year.
The plot starts well, but in the middle section, many characters and many subplots seemed unnecessary. For example relationship between Anuradha and her husband, the relationship of Aditya and his colleague, and again the complicated love story of Aditya and Shivaani ( Shivani Singh) do not add anything to the main plot. Maybe it is connected to the next season as the story concludes on a cliffhanger.
The technical department failed to execute the plot successfully. The screenplay is inconsistent, editing should have been sharper. The background score failed to create its magic. The fighting sequences were not believable. The writing was not gripping. Many dialogues were repeated. Characters too were not developed properly. However, the actors tried to cover up the shortcomings. Gulshan Devaiah as Aditya Rai was decent and intense. Iram Badar Khan as Vidya is impressive, and Gauahar Khan as Anuradha Singh is confident and sincere. She carried her role with ease and grace. Pavan Raj Malhotra as Dhansu Yadav is convincing. He shines in his grey character with many layers. He managed to catch the dialect perfectly. Shivani Singh as a journalist was also good. The supporting cast was decent. Rajendra Sethi as a corrupt cop Jangal Singh, Kumar Saurabh as Dr. Nanhe, Navdeep Singh as Akhatari, and others too.
Directed by Sayed Ahmed Afzal, this promising plot had twists and turns like other thrillers, gripping moments, amazing actors yet failed to impress due to improper execution. It's streaming with 9 episodes on MX Player.
